What is a CHIBI?

Chibi (ちび, Chibi) means "short person" or "small child" in Japanese. The word has come to gain popularity in describing small characters and animals in Japanese animation and manga, the comic form of anime. Chibi can also be translated as little, but is not used in the same way as chiisana (tiny, small, little in Japanese).

"Chibi" can be used to describe short characters; for example, Echizen Ryoma of the popular anime and manga Prince of Tennis is affectionately referred to as "O'chibi" due to his height. Doll versions of characters are also sometimes referred to as chibis.

Chibis does not mean super deformed, although some chibis are seen with large heads and small bodies.

The term "chibi" is not constricted to merely anime and manga and is seen in Japanese dramas as well.
